The Accounting AAS degree program provides the technical and critical skills needed to perform accounting functions and processes in the accounting cycle. Throughout this program, students will gain knowledge, skills, and capabilities such as creating financial statements, understanding the generally accepted accounting principles, and applying theories related to financial reporting and managerial decision-making. Graduates of this program may apply the courses and earn credits toward the bachelor’s in accounting degree program.
Graduates of this degree plan will achieve the following program and institutional outcomes:
- Interpret and apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAPs) to analyze, record, and report financial information to assist users in the management decision-making process.
- Develop accounting reports for internal and external users.
- Analyze financial information to assist users in the management decision-making process.
- Differentiate between ethical and unethical decisions within a business environment.
- Utilize accounting functions to effectively assist in managing a business.
- Utilize appropriate current technology and resources to locate and evaluate information needed to accomplish a goal, and then communicate findings in visual, written and/or oral formats.
- Transfer knowledge, skills and behaviors acquired through formal and informal learning and life experiences to new situations.
- Employ strategies for reflection on learning and practice in order to adjust learning processes for continual improvement.
- Follow established methods of inquiry and mathematical reasoning to form conclusions and make decisions.
- Participate in social, academic, and professional communities for individual growth and to function as a citizen of a multicultural world.
