Program: BSNG and BSNY

The Bachelor of Science Nurse Generalist Program is a comprehensive eight semester programs designed to promote the development of professional nurses who will meet the changing needs of patients. These nurses will address the increasing needs of persons trained for complex patient care in all healthcare settings and who are prepared to address particular needs in healthcare, prevention, treatment of diseases, illnesses and conditions, and rehabilitation across the lifespan. These needs that are influencing the nursing role changes are reflected in scientific advances, changing population demographics, technologic explosion, and increasing needs to better access health care and healthcare information (AACN, 2008). Students who complete this program are eligible to sit for the RN-N.C.L.E.X. licensure exam.

Graduates of this degree plan will achieve the following program and institutional outcomes:

  • Integrate theory and research-based knowledge from nursing, the arts, humanities, and the sciences  to inform clinical judgment and support evidence-based nursing practice across diverse healthcare settings.
  • Apply knowledge, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice to deliver safe, culturally competent, and person-centered care that respects the values, preferences, and needs of individuals, families, and communities across the lifespan.
  • Apply principles of public health, disease prevention, and health promotion to effectively manage, enhance, and safeguard the health of populations across diverse communities.
  • Identify how research evidence and clinical expertise contribute to the evidence-based practice (EBP) framework, and clearly describe how they help improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate effective use of technology, improvement science, EBP, and a culture of patient safety to enhance and support safe practice. 
  • Demonstrate interprofessional communication skills to develop collaborative relationships with stakeholders to improve health care delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Apply system-thinking, innovation, and evidence-based practice to optimize and improve healthcare delivery for all.
  • Apply ethical and intentional use of innovative technology to synthesize relevant data and support clinical decision-making, patient education, error prevention, and coordination of healthcare for all. 
  • Demonstrate development of a professional identity that embraces nursing values, accountability, and commitment to the nursing profession.
  • Apply leadership competencies, lifelong learning, and a spirit of inquiry to advocate for self, the nursing profession, patients, and populations. 
  • Utilize current technology and resources to identify a research need, locate and evaluate necessary and available information, and then use it appropriately to communicate findings in visual, written, or oral formats. *
  • Integrate new and prior knowledge, skills, and behaviors acquired through learning to engage in career, life, and academic pursuits. *
  • Examine individual thinking strategies through reflection, analysis, and evaluation to adjust learning processes focused on continual improvement. *
  • Follow established methods of scientific inquiry and quantitative reasoning to form conclusions and make decisions. *
  • Assess academic, life, and career situations that promote cultural sensitivity, global and economic awareness, and a sense of belonging. *
